RE: source for Chinese fabric

Title: source for Chinese fabric

Thai Silks has a good selection of brocaded silks with typical motifs like butterflies and peonies.  You can purchase samples of their brocaded silks in 2" squares.  They are fairly heavy in weight and will work passable well for upholstery issues.  However they only measure 45" wide.

Unfortunately I have no source for the voided velvet.  But please let me know if you find one.  Have you thought of transferring a design onto velvet?  Their is an artist in Minnesota that paints on the reverse of the velvet and the dyes move to the front.  maybe the design could be recreated with such a surface treatment.

Subject: source for Chinese fabric

Hello,
I am looking for a source for fabrics which incorporate traditional Chinese motifs.  I have already consulted our regular suppliers at the Boston Design Center (Scalamandre, Old World Weavers, etc.) and also have had no luck in Boston's Chinatown, or on the web.

We are looking for a replacement for a late 19th C. blue voided velvet with a traditional pattern of peonies with peaches, butterflies, and bats. I'm not looking to match it exactly, but would be happy if we could find something that was of similar scale and colour. As we only need a small amount of fabric, we are looking for a stock fabric available by the yard.

Any advice on retail stores, or mail-order/internet sources would be most appreciated. Thank you,
