Bibliography on Textiles in Interior Decoration - Joint effort

Dear Colleagues,
this past week I have been asked to teach a one-day module "Textiles in Interior Design" at the Fachhochschule für Konservierung in Bern (Switzerland). This will be part of a module on preservation of interior decoration in general (the other topics being painted wall surfaces, stucco, linoleum floors, wall paper...); the students taking part will be from different specialties (not only textile conservators). Unfortunately, I will have to teach this module 8th of February already, so time is scarse! The main difficulty I have, is to compile a fair enough annotated bibliography in this short time.
I therefore now take up an idea which has been discussed in Amsterdam recently, where teachers in Textile Conservation from all over the world have met and agreed upon joining forces and exchanging teaching tools. Here is my idea: I have started to compile the bibliography and have placed it on a "hidden page" on our website (i.e. by browsing our homepage you will *not* find a link; you need to enter the exact address: www.prevart.ch/biblio.htm ), and I ask those of you who are interested in this topic and/or have read a lot of information about that topic to visit this site and to make further suggestions, comments, give more data etc. Please send your suggestions to my *offline* e-mail karin.vonlerber@xxxxxxxxxx . I will continuously update the bibliography and send a mail to all of you again once it is ready for you to download the final version.

Please feel free to forward this message to any textile curators you know who are specialized in this field.

Some further information to the bibliography and its contents:
  • the annotations are (mostly) in German, as this is the language of our students (and the language in which I enter my personal bibliography database...)
  • not all entries are complete. This is not due to my laziness, but to the fact that I have exploited other bibliographies, and not only entered books I have read / seen myself. If you can complete some of the information, and /or add comments under "content / Inhalt", I would be very glad.
  • The books are divided into three main groups of "stile", "technique" and "conservation". Within these topics they are sorted alphabetically by author, which causes a slight disorder with subgroups like wall, drapery/windows, furniture etc., but gave the most legible result as a whole
  • There is not much in my bibliography about upholstery conservation a) because the students just had a one-week seminar with Kate Gill and b) because Kate Gill has just published a book on this topic which includes an up to date bibliography.
  • Each entry is numbered, which will facilitate your comments (you don't have to write the whole reference).
I am looking forward to your messages (maybe also comments, whether you think this is a good way of joining forces?) and thank you already in advance.
Sincerely, Karin von Lerber
