Subject: Monthly NISO Open Community Teleconfrerence 3/9/09 at 3 PM EST -
Topic: E-Resourece Management Issues
Good afternoon,
Last month, NISO began a new forum to discuss standards, initiatives and
community action that is either underway or needed. Next week, NISO will
continue this series on Monday, March 9th from 3:00 - 4:00 pm EST. The
NISO Standards Status Teleconference is free and open for all interested
participants to discuss NISO's activities and other technology-related
projects. These calls provide an opportunity for the community to provide
feedback as well as receive regular updates of our activities. This will
be the first of a regular series of teleconferences, each month throughout
2009 and into the future. Membership in NISO is not required, nor is
registration for this free event.
During the next call, Tim Jewell, Director, Information Resources and
Scholarly Communication, University of Washington Libraries and Ivy
Anderson, Director, Collection Development & Management Program at the
California Digital Library will discuss future developments related to
e-resource management systems. Building on the work of the DLF E-Resource
Management Initiative (ERMI), the NISO Business Information Topic Committee
is beginning to explore what next steps might be needed in the community
regarding digital resource management. Mr. Jewell and Ms. Anderson serve
on a BITC subcommittee that is researching a potential new work proposal
that will focus on reviewing the ERMI Data Dictionary as it stands now,
showing which elements map to what existing or ongoing projects. The result
of this research should show gaps in the management needs and will be
summarized in a report for the topic committee later this year. The TC
will then determine if those gaps are immediate needs that would then
require attention by NISO in those areas. At present, the subcommittee is
soliciting feedback on the status of ERMI and the needs of the community
and participants in the call are encouraged to bring their ideas to the
meeting.
In addition to the discussion on ERMI, regular agenda items discussed
during the call will be a Directors report of current NISO activities, an
update of recent actions of the Topic Committee and working group
activities, and an description of new projects that are under consideration
or taking place in the community. The call will end with an open
discussion of any information standards or information technology related
topic that the group would like to engage in conversation on. The call will
last between thirty and sixty minutes depending on the amount of
participation from those dialing into the meeting.
To join the teleconference and discussion, call 1-877-375-2160 on March 9
at 3:00 pm EST and, when asked, enter the code: 178-00-743.
We hope that you can join in the conversation,
Todd Carpenter
