Please forward to your lists as appropriate and apologies for any cross
postings. See you in Denver!

Please join us to learn about state, national, and international efforts
to preserve and provide on-line access to historical newspapers.

Agenda

We are very happy to have noted author Jennifer 8. Lee as our guest
speaker. Ms. Lee is the author of the best selling Fortune Cookie
Chronicles and she will talk about her use of current and historical
newspaper resources-both analog and digital-in writing her book.

But there's more:

Teri Sierra, Assistant Chief - Serials and Government Publications
Division, the Library of Congress, will provide an update on what's
going on at the Library of Congress in the realm of newspaper
preservation and access.

Barbara Paulson, Senior Program Officer, the Division of Preservation
and Access, National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) will report on
NEH activities as they related to newspapers. Colleagues may be
particularly curious to hear the latest on the NDNP.

Iris Haney, President, Unlimited Priorities, will provide some exciting
news about the future release of Accessible Archives' new digital
edition of the Virginia Gazette.

Mary McCarthy of the Colorado Virtual Library at the Colorado State
Library will provide a brief description of newspaper activities in the
Colorado region.

Carolyn Ciesla, ICON Program Coordinator, Center for Research Libraries,
will provide a brief update on the ICON project as well as CRL's work
with NewsBank and the World News Archive digitization efforts.

I hope there will be time to hear from our colleagues attending the
meeting about activities related to newspaper preservation and access.

And everyone is encouraged to discuss local, national, and international
newspaper initiatives.
