Digital Preservation Interest Group
ALA Midwinter Meeting
Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 8-10 AM
Westin Tabor Center, Tabor Auditorium

Presentations

·     Lisa Schmidt, MATRIX, Michigan State University

MATRIX, a digital research humanities center at Michigan State University, received a grant from NHPRC to assess and improve on the preservation policies and practices of the H-Net academic e-mail lists.  MATRIX hosts H-Net which is the oldest and largest collection of born-digital arts, humanities, and social sciences material on the Internet.  H-Net includes more than 1 million e-mail messages and is growing.  The assessment includes applying the TRAC checklist to the H-Net archive.  Improvements to the preservation practices will incorporate TRAC policies and procedures.  Additionally, the DICE group (late of the San Diego Supercomputer Center, now at University of North Carolina) will test their iRODS data grid software system on the H-Net archive. This will involve them writing "rules" compliant with MSU’s TRAC policies to automate preservation processes.

·     Abagail Potter, Digital Archivist, Office of Strategic Initiatives, Library of Congress

·     Martin Halbert, Emory University
