NOTES:
The incumbent recommends policy with regard to preservation, reference
and education and training issues; defines and carries out projects, and
establishes priorities for preservation education and outreach
activities. This position is responsible for maintaining expertise in
one or more specialized preservation activities such as emergency
preparedness and collections care, and provides reference and training
using a working knowledge in all areas as assigned. At entry level
(GS-9), the incumbent completes routine assignments using specialized
knowledge, assists division chief with major programs and services in
training and outreach.
This position is located in the Preservation Directorate, Library
Services.

EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES: The Library of Congress evaluates applicants
through an applicant questionnaire and a structured interview.

and abilities (KSAs) that are marked with a double asterisk (**) in the

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for

The incumbent of this position will work a flextime work schedule.
DUTIES:
Maintains liaison or communicates with library patrons, supervisors,
library staff, other national libraries, library and information
networks, information centers, experts in government agencies,
associations, the private sector, the general public and/or research
groups. Motivates clientele to fully utilize preservation programs and
services.
Supports the Preservation Directorate training program by assisting in
the implementation of prepared training courses and materials.
Implements course plans while presenting classroom instruction. Prepares
instructional guides, information packets, and other resource
materials.
Analyzes, evaluates, organizes, and disseminates preservation
information and materials in various media for quality, content, and
effectiveness.
Prepares written documents, including reports, articles, and formal
correspondence through 'Ask a Librarian' queries using Question Point
scripts and other means of inquiry relating to preservation. Performs
various writing and editing duties for a variety of documents and
reports. 
EVALUATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and
training suffic
ient in scope and quality to furnish them with an
acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to
perform the duties of the position without more than normal
supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
Ability to plan and carry out preservation training programs. **
Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and techniques of preservation
and library science. **
Ability to analyze and organize information and materials.
Ability to provide consultation or liaison duties. **
Ability to perform writing and editing duties.

Office, the Congressional Research Service, and the Law Library of
Congress and is leading the worldwide effort to preserve digital
material through the National Digital Information Infrastructure and
Preservation Program.

This position requires that the incumbent meet initial and continuing
qualifications in the use of firearms. Under Title 18 USC, Section
922(g)(9), anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of
domestic violence is automatically disqualified from being appointed to
a position requiring the possession of a firearm or ammunition.
