Library of Congress Honors MayDay

 

FLICC and Preservation Directorate Offer Model Charter

In honor of MayDay, the Library of Congress Federal Library and Information Center (FLICC) and the Preservation Directorate have sponsored a model mutual disaster assistance charter as an aid to librarians interested in collaborating with other institutions to prepare for and cope with disasters. 

 

Examples of Working Disaster Response Networks

The state of California is home to several disaster response networks.  Learn about the organization and activities of some of the most successful networks:

·         Inland Empire Libraries Disaster Response Network (IELDRN) Mutual Aid Agreement 

·         San Diego/Imperial County (SILDRN) Mutual Aid Agreement  

 

Emergency Preparedness Resources from the Preservation Directorate

Visit the Library of Congress Preservation Directorate emergency preparedness web page for more information about disaster planning and response including first-person accounts of conservators’ working in the Gulf region after Hurricane Katrina (Learning from Katrina), risk management tools and resources, information on fire recovery for collections, videos of salvage procedures, and other resources to help you prepare for disasters.

 

MayDay –  A National Effort to Protect Collections from Disasters

Archives, libraries, museums, and historic preservation organizations across America will set aside May 1, 2008, to participate in MayDay.  The Heritage Emergency National Task Force offers lots of ideas for taking simple steps to help protect collections observing MayDay.
