SUPERVISORY PRESERVATION SPECIALIST (GS-1001-11) Works with the Preservation Officer to accomplish a range of projects relating to the preservation and reproduction of archival records. Serves as a technical specialist on a variety of reproduction and reformatting options, including digital imaging. Identifies appropriate reproduction and reformatting options through assessing record condition and undertaking cost-benefit analysis; provides technical assistance and guidance for quality control; identifies and evaluates criteria for the specifications of reformatting contracts, products or equipment and evaluates reformatting contract proposals; monitors in-house work quality and undertakes work measurement or other systems studies; and develops production standards and procedures. Serves as first-level supervisor for the reformatting program, including such tasks as overseeing work schedules, recruiting, undertaking performance evaluations and disciplinary actions, resolving employee complaints, etc. $52,912.00 - $68,787 Job Announcement Number N07 - 136; Closing Date: 9/4/07 PRESERVATION SPECIALIST (GS-1001-9) Serves as an assistant to the Supervisory Preservation Specialist and is responsible for leading a full range of projects relating to the preservation of primarily paper-based archival records. Proposes appropriate preservation, holdings maintenance and storage procedures; executes treatments including analyzing solvent interaction and the condition of pigments, media, supports, etc. as well as performing consolidation or stabilization of media, aqueous and non-aqueous treatments, leaf casting, pulp mending, encapsulation and matting & display of original documents for exhibition; provides technical guidance to lower-graded employees; makes daily work assignments and schedules; maintains databases documenting project progress, and prepares statistical reports or written and photographic documentation of treatments. Also assists with teaching; public outreach; exhibits and tours; disaster recovery, environmental monitoring and IPM; maintaining and ordering supplies or equipment; and planning for a facility move (2009).
