The School of Information and the Radio-Television-Film Department at 
The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a 
full-time, tenure-track joint-appointment position.  This 
appointment, anticipated to start in Fall, 2007, will be made at the 
Assistant Professor rank with the School of Information as the home 
department for tenure purposes. We seek a faculty member who can 
bring vision and commitment to integrating the disciplines of moving 
image archiving and preservation with film history and cinema 
studies. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and 
experience.

The University of Texas is located in one of the fastest-growing 
centers of interest in film in the country. We welcome applicants who 
can leverage this film culture and help us envision new research 
possibilities and bridge traditional divides. Candidates must publish 
visibly, be able to obtain research funding, demonstrate excellence 
in teaching, and have a commitment to shaping the future of film 
preservation, access, and the role of film as a cultural record.  We 
are particularly keen on faculty whose interests and expertise span 
the areas of film archives, digital media research, preservation, and 
film history and cinema studies. We prefer a focus primarily but not 
exclusively on the United States with respect to film studies.

Candidates must hold a doctorate degree and be capable of teaching 
and supervising graduate students in both the School of Information 
(iSchool) and the Department of Radio-Television-Film (RTF). Faculty 
responsibilities include teaching courses in both the iSchool and RTF 
(a 2+2 load is normal, but may be reduced through external funding), 
mentoring masters and doctoral students, serving on school and 
university committees, and conducting a program of research that 
meets national standards of excellence.

The University of Texas School of Information is ranked 7th in the 
nation among programs in Library and Information Studies, and #1 in 
the nation in the area of archives and preservation.  The selected 
candidate would have the opportunity to contribute to the activities 
of the Kilgarlin Center for Preservation of the Cultural Record and 
the iSchool's evolving curriculum and research programs in digital 
libraries and media.

The Department of Radio-Television-Film has 25 permanent faculty, 
approximately 950 undergraduate majors & 150 graduate students 
pursuing Ph.D., M.A. or M.F.A. degrees.  RTF offers courses in film & 
television studies, international communication, telecommunication 
technology & policy, gender & sexuality, & ethnic issues in 
communication, film & video production, and screenwriting.
