[PADG:1261] RE: CD-ROM assessments

[Apologies...here are the links.]

Emily,
Three recent works; I suspect you have these but not sure others have
seen all three.

Subject: [PADG:1255] CD-ROM assessments

Hello all,

I am a graduate student currently enrolled in a Preservation Management
class. My partner and I will be conducting a needs assessment survey on
a collection of CD-ROMs. However, we are having some trouble finding
examples of past surveys from other libraries.
Since we don't have the equipment needed to test the BLER, we plan on
doing a visual inspection for disc rot, hurricane patterns, scratches,
fingerprints, label failure, etc. and a readability test, i.e. will it
play on the computers available at the library and what software does it
require. Has anyone done an assessment on CD-ROMs? Any suggestions for
additional items to be included in the survey would be greatly
appreciated.

Best,
Emily Rainwater
