[PADG:905] New co-chair for PADG

PADGers,

As you know, Jane Hedberg and I have been co-chairs of PADG for the last 3 conferences and are in the midst of planning our fourth and final PADG as a team. We have had a great time, determining agenda topics that are of interest to professionals in the field, inviting speakers, showcasing innovative research studies and research projects via the poster sessions and coming up with ways to work around the new ALA schedule. While it has been hard work, I have learned a lot, made valuable contacts in the field and gained a great friend in Jane.

We are thinking hard about how to keep the momentum of the group going forward and we feel we have come up with a plan. Since this is such a large group to lead, and can be intimidating to organize, having only one year to get up to speed as co-chair is simply not enough.  We therefore suggest two year terms for co-chairs of PADG.  We also suggest that the terms stagger, for instance one term 2006-2008 and one term in 2007-2009, so that there is overlap and a certain degree of organizational memory at the co-chair level.

To implement this, I will complete my term at the end of Annual 2006.  Jane Hedberg has graciously agreed to continue for one more year. A new co-chair will be selected to start a 2006-2008 term immediately after New Orleans. He or she will work with Jane to plan the 2007 Midwinter and Annual meetings in Seattle and Washington DC.  Jane will finish after Washington and a new person will be selected to replace her for the 2007-2009 term.  So, at each Annual meeting, a single person will need to be elected to replace one of the co-chairs.

If you are interested in serving one 2 year term as PADG co-chair, starting immediately after New Orleans, , please contact either myself (cmook@xxxxxxx) or Jane Hedberg ( jane_hedberg@xxxxxxxxxxx) . If we have more than one volunteer, a vote will take place at the PADG in New Orleans.

Thank you,

Cathy Martyniak

Jane Hedberg
