[PADG:713] Zorbix ready to manufacture
Title: Zorbix ready to manufacture
Zorbix,* developed by Artifex Equipment,
Inc. for use in drying water-damaged books, is ready to go into
production. The product has proven effective in drying books in hours
and can be reused numerous times. This is an important addition to
disaster recovery methods and may well supplant blotter paper in
general conservation use.
Artifex Equipment, Inc. has invested its
resources to develop Zorbix and has acquired all the materials and
chemicals necessary for manufacture. We have secured terms for part of
the cost of production yet additional funds are required to begin the
work. Therefore we are asking the preservation community to consider
pre-paying their Zorbix order. The University of Iowa, Bill Minter,
Emory University, the Newberry Library and other institutions have
agreed to pre-pay. These institutions are supporting this effort to
launch the new product because Zorbix is a breakthrough technology
that will improve response to disasters.
Using existing equipment and procedures, Zorbix dries damp or wet
books many times faster than any other material. Water-damaged
material can be treated on-site when vacuum freeze drying fails to
address the needs of the item being dried.
Zorbix:
* Soaks up to 50 times its weight in water
* Is reusable (dries out with air or solar heat to be used again)
* Dries books quickly and safely
* Absorbs moisture during freezer storage of wet books
* Is easy to use (same craft principles as blotter paper)
* Requires no extra equipment or chemicals
* Sheet sizes: 4"x 6," 6" x 9," 7.5" x 10,"
10" x 12" & 15" x 20"
