[PADG:484] PARS Education Discussion Group

Preservation Education and Outreach Discussion Group
Saturday, June 25
2:00-4:00
Palmer House Hilton, Salon III

As preservation administrators, you have undoubtedly been approached for
conservation assistance from community members. To what point do you feel
comfortable dispensing preservation advice to concerned individuals?

Please join the PARS Education and Outreach Discussion Group to examine
disseminating preservation information to the general public. Mary Ellen
Starmer, Preservation Coordinator of University of Tennessee Libraries, will
discuss the implementation, evolution and success of a preservation outreach
program.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky's School of Library and Information
Science, Mary Ellen has been at Tennessee since 2000, working to develop the
University Libraries preservation program. Education has played an integral
role in this process. Along with activities designed for staff education,
Mary Ellen has also focused on educating the public about preservation
issues. With this in mind, the Preservation Office has established an
annual "Book Doctor Clinic."

If there are additional topics you wish to discuss at the meeting, please
contact Jill Rawnsley at Jrawnsley@xxxxxxxxx or Barbara Joy at
