The New York Public Library invites applications for the following new preservation position. 

Position: Field Service Librarian, Barbara Goldsmith Preservation Division, Collections Care Program 

Requirements: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Studies and an advanced certificate in preservation administration or successfully demonstrated work experience in preservation. Successfully demonstrated professional accomplishments and extensive knowledge of preservation issues and current trends. Successfully demonstrated experience developing, designing and carrying out a wide variety of surveys and assessments and developing and writing grants. Strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Strong project management and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, database management and spreadsheets. Successfully demonstrated ability to work in a large, complex and changing environment with diverse staff and public. Knowledge of web design and editing software preferred. Demonstrated experience in basic book repair techniques preferred.

Description: Under the direction of the Head of Collections Care, provides advisory support in the area of preservation for all collections-holding divisions throughout the Research Libraries. Designs and executes preservation needs assessments for collections; develops, with curatorial staff, condition surveys; analyzes results and makes recommendations regarding preservation. Develops and carries out basic preservation education for Library staff and patrons. Coordinates preservation outreach activities within the Research Libraries including maintenance of the Preservation Division web page. Serves as the preservation reference contact internally to Library staff and to the general public. Coordinates environmental monitoring for all Research Libraries facilities. Assesses the impact of environmental conditions on a variety of collections, and works with appropriate staff to make corrective improvements. Coordinates integrated pest management programs for all Research Libraries facilities. Coordinates the Research Libraries' emergency preparedness and response programs. Provides emergency response assistance throughout the Research Libraries. Assists in the development of preservation projects. Assists with grant or other outside-funded projects. Prepares statistical reports as needed. Performs related duties as required.
