Bindery, End Processing Team Leader

Responsibilities: Manages and supervises the University of Maryland
Libraries' Bindery, End Processing Team, a high volume production unit
within the Preservation Production Group.  Oversees a time-sensitive
workflow of approximately 70,000 pieces per year.  Ensures that
production objectives are met within an established time frame.
Provides organizational and procedural analysis to maximize efficiency
of workflow.  Manages automation of workflow and procedures including
investigation, implementation, and maintenance of online alternatives to
manual practices.  Coordinates operations of the Bindery, End Processing
Team with other teams within the Preservation Production Group and
within the University of Maryland Libraries.  Coordinates communication,
and shipment and contract implementation with vendors, and has budgetary
responsibility over vendor invoices.  Resolves problems and manages
communication and shipments of library materials with internal customers
throughout all divisions of the UM Libraries.  Supervises staff and
students, with hiring, training and performance review responsibilities.
 Ensures that the Team’s processes and procedures meet preservation
objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:  Bachelor's degree is desired.  At least
two years of experience managing a high production workflow, preferably
in an academic library preservation program.  At least two years of
experience supervising staff.  Demonstrated management, supervisory, and
leadership skills.  Demonstrated ability to analyze production-related
issues and organize workflow to maximize efficiency.  Demonstrated
ability to evaluate automated systems in terms of applications to
bindery, end processing activities, and to incorporate appropriate
applications into workflow.  Demonstrated ability to mange a broad
variety of tasks in response to varying time pressures with shifting
priorities and changing constraints.  Good oral and written
communication skills.  Evidence of ability to interact collaboratively
and work effectively with teams.  Evidence of strong service
orientation.  Demonstrated ability to present data in easily
comprehensive format using appropriate software, including spreadsheets.
 General understanding of book structures and preservation issues.
