Collections Conservator
Dartmouth College Library

Dartmouth College Library seeks a Collections Conservator to plan, coordinate and oversee the evaluation, physical care, and treatment of the general and special collections held in the Dartmouth College Library system as well as to establish and maintain quality

Required: Formal bookbinding and conservation training or the equivalent in education and experience OR a terminal degree in library and/or information science with specialization in conservation; or the equivalent. Knowledge of conservation principles, practices and procedures; knowledge of current book conservation materials and techniques; knowledge of bookbinding history and book structure; background in general and organic chemistry strongly preferred; demonstrated ability to work independently and to exercise initiative and judgment in planning and carrying out the conservation functions; strong organizational skills to plan, organize and prioritize conservation projects; excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the staff of the College libraries and to direct the work of others; commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population; knowledge of computers and software applications in a conservation environment.

Rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position can be control of conservation treatments performed within the library system. filled at Salary Range PDL A, DRM D, DRM C, or DRM B depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days, comprehensive health care, TIAA/CREF; and relocation assistance.
