The agendas for the workshops will be the same at each location. For

DESCRIPTION:

Initiatives to address preservation conditions or conservation treatment
are alarmingly easy to defer. At many libraries, limited resources for
grant writing are devoted to raising funds for capital campaigns,
educational initiatives, and outreach programs. Consequently, the
important task of ensuring the preservation of core items in unique
special collections often gets neglected.

Fortunately, a number of funding sources have acknowledged this situation,
and they are openly encouraging preservation-oriented requests. This
one-day fundraising workshop primarily focus on federal and state funding
opportunities. The morning session offers an overview of the various
funding programs, and the afternoon session examines the process of
writing and assembling effective requests.

The workshop addresses:

* Planning: Moving from a preservation needs assessment or
preservation plan to a funding strategy.

* Potential funding sources: Triaging your time to determine your
best investment, whether it be individuals, government, or private
	foundations.

* Writing the request: Anticipating the funder's questions and
	answering them concisely.

* Evaluation: Incorporating the new standards.

PRESENTER:

Lee Price, Director of Development at the Conservation Center for
Art and Historic Artifacts, Philadelphia, has worked as a grant writer
consultant for many local and national cultural institutions. He has
written successful grant requests for preservation funding from the
Institute for Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the
Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Save America's
Treasures, as well as many state and private foundation funding sources.
