[PADG:1987] SOLINET Preservation Conference

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Preservation and Collections Care Issues During Building
Projects and Renovations

When planning renovation and building projects in libraries and archives,
close attention to collections care and preservation issues is a must.
During moves and renovations, collections are exposed to additional dangers,
including poor environmental conditions, dirt, physical damage, and the
possibility of disasters, such as flood and fires. Environmental control,
equipment, and storage facilities are important considerations in planning
for both new buildings and renovations.

This full-day conference is designed to assist people whose institutions are
planning and/or implementing a new building or renovation project. The
sessions will focus on preservation issues as they relate to planning,
design, construction, moving collections, and disasters. Speakers will
include architects, library administrators, disaster preparedness experts,
and an environmental specialist. Case studies combined with general
information sessions will provide information on a broad range of pertinent
subjects.
