Senior Conservation Technician/Workflow Coordinator Harvard University
Under guidance, coordinates overall conservation activities of protective enclosures unit. Oversees workflow including minor repair, labeling, rehousing, and physical preparation of materials for reformatting and contract services. Assists in hiring, training, scheduling, distributing work to, and evaluating work of other staff members, students/temporary workers. Contributes to performance evaluations. Designs and constructs protective enclosures. Prepares materials for microfilming, digitizing, contract services; assists in processing upon return; prepares materials for exhibition; evaluates damaged and deteriorated materials. Performs appropriate treatments, including repairing and rebinding books; cleaning and mending paper. Maintains equipment, tracks and orders supplies for unit; participates in disaster planning and response. Related duties and team projects as required.
Qualifications: BA preferred with four plus years experience organizing and managing projects and/or workflow, preferably in production setting. Must have formal or OJT in bookbinding or book conservation. Ability to initiate and adapt to change, to analyze and solve problems, to be flexible and work collaboratively as well as independently with minimal supervision necessary. Experience in a recognized conservation facility preferred. NOTE: Work is performed in a production-oriented laboratory with pressure of persistent deadlines. Position involves lifting up to 40 lbs., operating heavy equipment, using sharp tools and fume hood. Job also involves exposure to dust. Portfolio required at interview.
