[PADG:1556] ALA Midwinter PARS Phys. Qual./Pres. Instr., Educ. &Outreach Joint Discussion Group

The ACLTS/PARS Physical Treatment & Quality and Preservation
Instruction, Education, and Outreach Discussion Groups are scheduled for a
JOINT meeting, Sunday, January 20th, from 2-4 p.m. The location is listed as
the Hotel Monteleone, Catheral Room. Please check your programs to confirm and
note that there is no separate Saturday meeting for the Physical Quality Group.

The topic of the discussion will be the training of in-house conservation
technicians or repair staff - "Given the range of responsibilities, funding
and staffing in library preservation programs how do you meet the training
needs of your technician level staff? Conservators and preservation
administrators have to rely on a wide range of staff - from volunteers to
student workers to part time bookbinders. How do you construct a training
program that can produce consistent and high-quality results?"

The discussion will be informal and will use the results of the training survey
conducted in December and January as a starting point for the discussion. Some
respondents have offered examples of their training materials - manual guides,
checklists, etc. which can be shared with the group. Please join us.
