OCLC has announced the formation of the Digital & Preservation Resources
Division to expand current capabilities and provide integrated solutions for
creating, accessing and preserving digital collections. Services include:
digitizing collections from paper or microfilm; adding metadata and
full-text search capabilities to digitized collections to improve
searchability; adding bibliographic records for digitized collections to
WorldCat to increase access; safe, secure, and standards-based storage and
archiving for microfilmed or digitized collections; and opportunities to
collaborate on digital collection development and grant funding.

If you are attending the ALA Midwinter Meeting in New Orleans January 18-23,
2002, you will have several opportunities to learn how OCLC Digital &
Preservation Resources services can increase collection access today and
ensure long-term preservation tomorrow.

1)	Visit the OCLC Booth No. 4100 in Halls H-J to see a demonstration of
how Olive Software's ActivePaper Archive(tm) is being used to digitize and
provide article level access to historic newspapers. We'll also demonstrate
how the Web Document Digital Archive Project can help you capture and manage
long-term retention of and access to web-based documents in your local
archive or in the OCLC Digital Archive.
2)	Attend a Digital & Preservation Resources information session for an
in-depth look at these new services. Sessions are being held on January 19
at 10:00-11:30 a.m. and repeated January 20 at 10:00-11:30 a.m. Embassy
Suites, Lafitte II.
3)	Register (sticklel@xxxxxxxx) for our FREE pre-conference workshop,
All the News That's Fit to Scan: Increasing Access to Historic Newspapers.
Friday, January 18, 2002. 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Continental breakfast
begins at 8 a.m.) Wyndham at Canal Place, Azalea II.

If you are not attending the ALA Midwinter Meeting, please contact Tom
Clareson at claresot@xxxxxxxx for information on OCLC Digital & Preservation
Resources.
