[PADG:1233] Audio Preservation now available on ALCTS Web site

Now available on the ALCTS Web site is the book Audio Preservation: A Selective Annotated Bibliography and Brief Summary of Current Practices, prepared by the Audio Preservation Task Force of ALCTS' Preservation and Reformatting Section Photographic and Recording Media Committee. It is found at http://www.ala.org/alcts/publications/audiopres.pdf.

This short, selective, indexed bibliography addresses preservation of sound recordings of all types--from wax cylinders through digital files. The majority of the book is devoted to bibliographic entries and is categorized topically: general works, description and history of media and formats, storage and handling, disaster response, reformatting/re-recording, technical studies, and bibliographies. Several other useful sections support the bibliography--listings of related standards and journals, selected annotations, and assessments of some of the more eminent sound archives and their facilities.
