[PADG:935] Re: Pre-stamped Call Numbers



Dear Mr. Van Norman:

Congratulations on your new responsibilities and Welcome to the wonderful
world of periodical binding!

VCU has had the commercial bindery print call number labels for over 10
years.  The preference is a horizontal 18pt type.  Second choice is
horizontal 14 pt.  Third choice is vertical 18pt. Fourth choice is vertical
14pt.  Fifth choice is 18pt horizontal printed on the front cover at the
bottom, 1/2" in from the spine (narrow spines only where title/author
information consumes the available space).  

These specifications are written in our RFP for commercial bindery
services.  I can think of no viable reason to make this a staff activity.
I strongly agree that this work should be done by the commercial bindery.
