Paint sample polishing

Has anyone seen the Mar 99 edition of Conservation News?  There is an
article
about easy cross sections for paint (p43) which sounded interesting
(particularly since it suggests that it is quick and cheap!).  Has
anyone
read the article and have any thoughts about the method and equipment? 
Has
anyone actually tried it out?
