This internship is hosted/funded by The Clothworkers' Foundation.
The National Museums Scotland is one of the UK's leading museums
services with one of the largest multidisciplinary collections in
the UK (12.4 million objects). NMS is composed of five museums, its
vision is to be a world-class museums service that informs, educates
and inspires. A key component in delivering this vision is for the
museum to fulfil a national role by increasing the advice provided
to the museum community in Scotland on collections, their care and
management.

This placement will focus on The Natural Sciences collections
(including both life sciences and earth sciences). These
collections are comprehensive in their coverage of the natural
world, although Botany is only represented by fossil plants. The
collections are global in terms of their content and the several
million specimens are used to help increase our understanding of the
Natural World. From dinosaur remains, rocks and fossils millions of
years old to extinct or endangered animals and meteorites from outer
space, our 10 million natural sciences objects and specimens help us
understand the world around us. The Geological Conservation
Laboratories specialise in providing conservation and preparation of
the diverse geological collections and to help preserve our natural
heritage for future generations.

Requirements: This internship is suitable to applicants that hold a
recognised postgraduate qualification in geology, biology,
palaeontology or conservation, with some practical experience,
preferably including work in a museum or natural sciences related
establishment. She/he must be a highly motivated, reliable and
resourceful individual with outstanding inter-personal skills.
Strong IT and sound personal organisational skills are essential.
The successful candidate will be required to work unsupervised on
