Subject: Deadlines for FAIC grants and scholarships
FAIC is currently accepting applications for the "Take a Chance" Grant, Carolyn Horton Grant, and Christa Gaehde Grant. Deadline for all application materials is February 1, 2016. "Take a Chance" Grant The "Take a Chance" Fund offers support of up to $1,000 to help defray costs for innovative conservation research or projects that may not otherwise be funded. The Fund was established in honor of Carolyn Rose, Chairman of the Department of Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History and internationally recognized leader and educator in conservation. Applicants must be current members of AIC. The grant is intended to encourage imaginative and innovative projects; therefore, funds may be used for any purposes that are relevant to the project. Since other FAIC scholarships and grants are available for attending courses, workshops, and seminars, applications for these types of projects are unlikely to be considered for funding. Carolyn Horton Grant The Carolyn Horton Fund was established to support continuing education for book and paper conservators who are members of the AIC Book and Paper specialty group. Funds may be used to help defray costs for attending meetings, seminars, workshops, or to conduct research or special projects. The amount available from the fund is approximately $1,000. Funds may be divided among qualified applicants. Carolyn Horton was noted throughout her career for her willingness to share her knowledge and her adherence to excellence. She was an AIC Honorary Fellow and was always a strong supporter of the AIC Code of Ethics Christa Gaehde Grant The Christa Gaehde Fund was established to promote study and research in the conservation of art on paper by members of AIC. Projects may involve individual study, attendance at workshops, conferences, or other events, purchase of materials for research projects, or other activities in keeping with this goal. Earnings from the fund are used to offer awards annually. Individual grants typically range from $500 to $1,000, depending on the earnings on the endowment and the number of applicants. The Fund honors Christa Gaehde, a pioneer in paper conservation. If you do not qualify for the above grants, keep your eye out for upcoming funding opportunities. FAIC will begin accepting applications for five additional grants/scholarship next week (due February 15, 2016).
