The Department of Scientific Research at the British Museum has an

in the area of textile analysis to include organic colourants and
fibre characterization.

Key areas of responsibility:

To design and carry out a scientific research project with a
textile focus, including organic colourant analysis and fibre
    characterization

To contribute to development of in-house reference collections
of specimens/data for fibres and organic colourants

To select and use a range of analytical equipment and, working
alongside the other scientists, use these skills in order to
respond to curatorial, scientific and conservation questions

To participate in the wider activities of the department,
including contributing to the Museum's public programme, in
order to fully understand the role of museum scientists within
    an organisation

    peer-reviewed publications

To organize and lead an international workshop/symposium related
to the Fellow's main research project

Person Specification: The successful candidate will possess a PhD or
equivalent in a scientific discipline, with experience in
application and use of LC/MS or HPLC and/or SEM for textile analysis
(colourants and fibres). Work experience may include working in a
laboratory and/or research environment, for example, in a
postdoctoral or research fellowship position. You will be able to
communicate effectively and clearly to a variety of audiences in
oral and written form, as well as a high level of IT literacy.
Strong team working abilities and good organisational skills are
essential. The post-holder should hold a publication record or
other evidence of written capabilities. Experience in the analysis
of museum/archaeological objects and materials would be
