Subject: Call for volunteers--Alpine Club of Canada
Volunteer Alpine Club of Canada - Ottawa section I am looking for someone who might be interested in taking on a small project preserving the archives of the Ottawa section of the Alpine Club of Canada. We have correspondence, membership lists and newsletters from the late 1940s, when our club was formed. We have recently unearthed several boxes of letters, membership lists and newsletters dating back to the founding of our section in 1948 and have begun the process of digitizing them. We are looking for an archivist to take over the process and give us some direction regarding how best to preserve the original documents. At minimum, we would like to complete the digital capture of what we have. For anyone who is keen, further research could be done ie contacting past members to collect pictures and telling the stories of some of the mountaineering expeditions our club members have been <URL:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centennial_Range> There is scope for further research for anyone who is interested--some of our members took part in historic expeditions to the Yukon, for example, and we have a documented history of permission to conduct activities in Gatineau Park that we may at some point need to legally prove as its governing body, the National Capital Commission, seeks to further restrict our use of that land. We are part of the Alpine Club of Canada, which has a rich history of mountaineering culture in Canada and whose archives are at this time located in a museum in Alberta. The larger club lacks an archive policy but I am assuming it will one day have a project that will provide direction for all the sections.
