Die Neue Sammlung--The Design Museum--houses one of the world's
largest and most important collections of industrial design. The
large number of objects (which is around 80,000) reflects the
technologies and materials developed in the course of the 20th
century, attesting in particular to the use of plastics. When
moving to the Pinakothek der Moderne in 2002 the Conservation
Department was founded. Since that time there is a strong focus on
the conservation of degraded modern materials. Researching the
deterioration and preservation of the collection, the development of
new conservation processes and the knowledge of original technology,
the Conservation Department has become an important center for the
conservation and the maintenance of design objects. The
Conservation Department plays an active role in sharing knowledge
with students and professionals and takes part in national and
international research projects. Since 2009 the Conservation
Department launches the biennial conference series: "Future Talks'
which discusses the conservation of modern materials in design.

Die Neue Sammlung is seeking a qualified, motivated objects

preventive conservation practice relating to the care of modern
collections. Work experience within the museum sector is
beneficial. A lively interest or experience in the technology and
conservation of 20th - 21st century objects would be an advantage.
Furthermore the applicant should have good verbal and written
communication skills in German and should be computer literate
conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel and Photoshop.
