The Department of Conservation and Scientific Research is looking to
recruit a paper conservator to work with the conservation and
mounting teams in the World Conservation and Exhibition Centre.  The
postholder will contribute to the conservation of the British
Museum's collection of Western Art on Paper and to the care of
collections programme.  The post-holder will also be responsible for
the project to re-house a collection of German banknotes.  Key areas
of responsibility:

    To carry out all aspects of practical conservation and mounting
    on a range of Western art on paper for display (permanent and
    temporary exhibitions), loans, storage and curatorial research

    To be able to evaluate the suitability of an object's treatment
    and assess the fitness of objects for display and loan and
    advise accordingly

    To maintain accurate records of all work undertaken and enter
    the data into the Museum's computerised record system

    To keep an up to date knowledge of new approaches to
    conservation materials and techniques through conservation
    literature, conferences and training

Person Specification: The successful candidate will possess
excellent paper conservation skills on art on paper and demonstrate
a strong understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision
making.  The post-holder will hold a recognised professional
qualification in paper conservation appropriate to the main purpose
of the job and have some experience of working in a museum
conservation studio or private sector, working with art on paper.
You will be able to demonstrate effective communication,
problem-solving and decision-making skills; be an excellent team
player and have the ability to work independently when required.
Experience of conservation mounting and re-housing would be
beneficial.
