Assistant Conservator, Collections Care (Research Assistant) Fitzwilliam Museum Fixed Term contract until 31 March 2018 UKP 24,775 - UKP 28,695 The purpose of this role is to carry out and co-ordinate collections care activities in the Fitzwilliam Museum and to research and develop new techniques and strategies in preventive conservation. The role holder works primarily with the Collections Care Officer (Research Assistant) Fitzwilliam Museum/UCM in the Fitzwilliam Museum, but also assists that role by contributing to the assessment of needs and providing practical support across the 8 University of Cambridge Museums. You will participate in and may initiate conservation research and contributes to case studies and other forms of public dissemination. You will also be required to teach and mentor students, interns, volunteers, organise professional events and take part in Fitzwilliam and UCM outreach activities. Through your work, you will ensure that the collections can be made safely accessible for both academic study and public enjoyment. In this way you will make a major contribution to the Museum's strategic plan and audience needs, the University's priorities and, also, regional, national and international initiatives. You will hold a relevant qualification in conservation and post-graduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in collections care and professional accreditation through ICON (or working towards achieving this) plus a current, demonstrable track record of work experience within museum collections. Highly effective communication and influencing skills, both written and oral, are essential as is the ability to develop effective working relationships both with colleagues and external contacts within a museum/gallery environment.
