Subject: Jane Pipik appointed Manager of Audio Preservation Services at NEDCC
With the assistance of AVPreserve, NEDCC has completed a year-long business planning study to expand its digital audio preservation service for libraries, archives, and museums to include traditional methods for digitally reformatting legacy audio carriers, such as magnetic and digital audio tape. The new Audio Preservation Service is expected to launch in spring 2016, and builds upon NEDCC's successful implementation of "IRENE," the IMLS-funded optical scanning technology, developed by Berkeley Labs and the Library of Congress, for digitizing grooved media such as discs and wax cylinders. NEDCC acknowledges the generous support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for underwriting both the audio business planning study and the implementation of its full audio preservation service. NEDCC is also very pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Pipik as its Manager of Audio Preservation Services. Jane brings extensive audio engineering experience to her role at NEDCC, including work as Recording and Production Engineer in public radio, first at WNYC New York (1984-1989) and then WGBH Boston (1989-2014). Her work has involved all aspects of recording and preservation; including studio and remote live recording, post-production, mastering, and digital reformatting. Jane has had the pleasure of recording a wide range of individual artists and performing groups: from Joan Baez to Yo Yo Ma, from Anthrax to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She holds a BA, summa cum laude, in Communications and Culture from the City University of New York, and will earn her Library and Information Science degree with an Archives Concentration at Simmons College in December of 2015.
