From: Sarah Saetren <ssaetren<-at->
Date: Friday, October 9, 2015
Two live webinars on sustainable conservation

"Cost Effective and Sustainable Packing, Moving, and Storage"
    December 1, 2015
    2pm EST

"Examining the Environmental Impact of Exhibitions and Loans
using the Life Cycle Assessment Tool"
    December 8, 2015
    2pm EST

Each webinar is 90 minutes (60 minutes presentation, 30 minutes Q&A)

"Cost Effective and Sustainable Packing, Moving, and Storage":

How have museums and libraries worked to reduce waste during
packing for exhibitions or a move? How have institutions
developed green housing and storage solutions for their
collections? What systems for organizing materials have they
found useful? This workshop will approach these questions both
from a planning perspective as well as offering practical
    hands-on practices.

The webinar will introduce participants to:

Methods of developing green housing and storage while taking
into account the requirements for the exhibition and access
        of the collection

Strategies for institutions to integrate sustainability into
efforts to improve access to the collections for research

"Examining the Environmental Impact of Exhibitions and Loans using
the Life Cycle Assessment Tool":

The session will introduce the concept of a Life Cycle
Assessment (LCA) and suggest ways that collecting institutions
can evaluate exhibition and loan energy use and materials from
cradle to grave. From these evaluations, sustainable aspects of
exhibitions and loans will be identified and discussed.
Providing life cycle assessments for loans, exhibitions, and
lighting can improve the long term preservation of cultural
heritage collections in an environmentally sustainable way.

The webinar will introduce conservators and collections care
    professionals to:

Tools that can be used to evaluate the sustainability of
        current practices

Methods of reducing their carbon footprint, minimize the
release of toxic chemicals into the environment, and reduce
production of waste, without sacrificing effective
preventive conservation measures or unnecessarily limiting
        treatment options
