Subject: Talk on plaster casts
The Washington Conservation Guild presents the second meeting of the 2015/2016 season Please join us at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore On Thursday, October 1, 2015 for the following talk: "Finding Their Place: The History and Conservation of Plaster Casts" Diane Fullick will present her work on this project. In 1881, a large collection of plaster casts was purchased from studios in Paris, London and Rome for the newly built Gallery of Art at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore. Due to an expansion of the music conservatory, the cast collection, much diminished, was transferred to the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1924 for use in the classrooms. In 2008, conservation of these plaster casts began and remains ongoing. This talk will discuss the history and conservation of this group of plaster casts as well as the changing bias towards plaster casts. The meeting will be held in the Main Building at MICA 1300 W Mt Royal Ave, Baltimore, MD 21217 5:30 - 6 pm Light Reception 6:00 - 7 pm Speaker The Main Building is a brief walk from Baltimore Penn Station.
