Subject: Workshop on kintsugi
The Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford are holding workshops on the kintsugi repair of ceramics. Participants will learn how to repair ceramics using the Japanese kintsugi method, with Muneaki Shimode and Takahiko Sato, lacquerware artists from Kyoto. Kintsugi is the repair of damaged or broken ceramics using urushi lacquer and most commonly, gold powder. You will learn how to shape fills, join a broken ceramic using epoxy glue, apply urushi lacquer and dust on metal powder to achieve a kintsugi repair. Take home your completed plate in a box alongside a kintsugi kit with all the materials needed to repair your precious ceramics at home. All materials provided. Participants must be aged 18+. Price UKP60 Maximum of 20 places per workshop. Please note: Repairs will be made with bronze powder instead of gold powder to keep the cost of the workshop to a minimum.
