The Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford are holding workshops
on the kintsugi repair of ceramics. Participants will learn how to
repair ceramics using the Japanese kintsugi method, with Muneaki
Shimode and Takahiko Sato, lacquerware artists from Kyoto. Kintsugi
is the repair of damaged or broken ceramics using urushi lacquer and
most commonly, gold powder. You will learn how to shape fills, join
a broken ceramic using epoxy glue, apply urushi lacquer and dust on
metal powder to achieve a kintsugi repair. Take home your completed
plate in a box alongside a kintsugi kit with all the materials
needed to repair your precious ceramics at home.

All materials provided.
Participants must be aged 18+.
Price UKP60
Maximum of 20 places per workshop.

Please note: Repairs will be made with bronze powder instead of gold
powder to keep the cost of the workshop to a minimum.

Workshops are on:

    Saturday 7 November, 13.00 - 16.00
    Wednesday 11 November 13.00 - 16.00
