Curatorial/Museum Specialist (Extended Temporary) Preservation Division Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona Tucson AZ Posted Rate of Pay: $33,408 Position Summary: The Curatorial/Museum Specialist (Conservation) (ETE) position functions within the Preservation Division of the Arizona State Museum and is supervised by the Division Head/Conservator. The incumbent works in conjunction with other museum conservators with responsibility for the physical care and management of the Save America's Treasures Basketry collection. Under the supervision of the Conservator, the Curatorial Museum Assistant prepares conservation documentation, performs treatments, conducts inventory research, and the moving and handling of collections according to standard professional protocols. This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position for the period of one year. Duties and Responsibilities: Physical Care of Collections: Assists with conservation needs of Museum collections through routine examinations, surveys, and condition reports Assists with the establishment of schedules and priorities on treatment and preservation of specimens Under supervision of Conservator, performs professional stabilization treatments, technical studies, and other conservation activities such as consolidating, cleaning, material characterization, scientific tests, and maintains a complete record of all treatment undertaken Under supervision of Conservator prepares reports for specimens Maintains procedures and standards for conservation. May publish articles describing conservation research and techniques, and may prepare written and oral presentations for university classes, general public, museum staff and conservators May assist curatorial staff in investigating and implementing improvements in storage conditions and procedures Performs related duties as required Laboratory: Assists Conservation Laboratory Coordinator with maintenance and inventory of conservation laboratory. Under supervision of Conservator, evaluates laboratory facilities, equipment and procedures, recommends and implements improvements as needed Maintains safe working conditions in chemical and analytical laboratories Teaching: May assist with supervision of interns, students, and volunteers Minimum Qualifications: Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Museum Studies, Art or related field and one year of museum curatorial and/or registration experience; OR, five years of museum curatorial and/or registration experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education Preferred Qualifications Master's degree coursework in Conservation from a recognized college or university, OR Master's degree in a related field with Certificate in Conservation from a recognized Conservation Program, OR equivalent combination of education and experience Verifiable familiarity with the issues of museum collections and Native American material culture and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act One year of verifiable conservation science experience with the techniques, materials, and equipment used in the conservation of diverse museum collections Verifiable ability to maintain ongoing effective working relationships with museum staff, colleagues in the field and the public; demonstrate good judgment, flexibility and resourcefulness To apply for this position please go to the University of Arizona UACareers website: <URL:https://uacareers.com/> Posting Number: S20326 Dr. Nancy Odegaard Conservator, Head of Preservation Division and Gina Watkinson Conservation Laboratory Coordinator Preservation Division Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona 1013 E.
