Call for posters "Evidence: Accessing the Past: Evidence of Artefacts" Artefacts Research Group Conference Palace Green Library Durham University 18-19 March 2016 Evidence from objects is central to archaeology, conservation and museums: but how do we gather, understand and communicate this? This conference draws together interdisciplinary approaches to uncover and explore evidence from artefacts from a wide variety of speakers. The presentations will be interspersed with mediated roundtables to debate the evidence obtained through different strategies, including technical analysis, aesthetic and intellectual analysis, and examine how such evidence can be evaluated and communicated. The programme consists of short presentations arranged around the following themes: Evidence Types: Analytical, Recovery Context, Cultural Associations Evidence and the Biography of Artefacts: Creation, Use and Abuse, Discarding and Recycling, Present Day Cultural Values Evidence and Degradation: Making Meaning from Damage and Decay Making and Communicating Meaning from Evidence The conference is open to academics and students from Durham and other universities and to members of the public. Use the poster to attract your audience for discussion, not to present complex details of methods and results. There will time to look at the posters during the tea breaks so encouraged to be near your poster then.
