Available from November 2015 Hours of work: 3 days per week, including lunch breaks Closing date: 1 September 2015 The Parliamentary Archives provides a records management and archives service the Houses of Parliament. It is in the custody of the records of the House of Lords and House of Commons, dating from 1497 to the present day and includes collections on paper, parchment, seals, photographs, audio-visual, printed text and manuscript. The collection is open to the public by appointment only. More details on the work of the Archives can be found at <URL:http://www.parliament.uk/archives> We are looking for two new posts--Collection Care Assistants--to join the Collection Care team at the Parliamentary Archives. These are an exciting opportunity for anyone with a strong background in arts, crafts and the conservation of heritage; and are interested in a career in conservation and heritage. You will work in a team of five and, under the guidance of the Collection Care Manager and conservators, you will support collection care activities for the Parliamentary Archives and other conservation and collection care teams across the Parliamentary estate. The main focus of the role will be to provide technical support to the two book and paper conservators, through a proactive and reactive conservation and preservation treatment programme to the Archive's collection of records. You will also be supporting the conservators on wider collection care activities that cover preservation risk management, including: environmental monitoring; handling and moving collections; disaster planning; exhibitions, including assessments for suitability of loan and making cradles and mounts; preparing material for digitisation; helping to review solutions for storage; supervising volunteers; providing training for placements and staff; helping to scope and discuss collection care requirements with suppliers and other specialists; and supporting the heritage strategy for Parliament, including stakeholder engagement.
