Position at Windsor Castle

From: Eleanor Mitchell <eleanor.mitchell<-at->
Date: Monday, July 27, 2015
Project Assistant (Conservation)
Royal Collection Trust
Location: Windsor Castle, Windsor

Contract: 12 Months Fixed-Term

Full-time

Salary: UKP24,648 per annum, pro-rata

About the role: It's bringing centuries of archives into the digital
age. It's finding new ways to share the Royal Archives. And it's
the satisfaction of presenting and promoting one of the world's
greatest Archive Collections. This is what makes working for Royal
Collection Trust so different.

The Royal Archives has a rich and engrossing history, containing
manuscripts of the official and personal archives of the Sovereign
and Members of the Royal Family spanning 250 years. Your challenge
will be to help us provide greater access to our audiences to the
17th and 18th century Stuart Papers and Cumberland Papers through
digitisation. You'll prepare a variety of archives material for
digitisation, complete a conservation survey and carry out
conservation treatments where necessary. From retrieval from
storage to seal stabilisation, you will ensure as much information
as possible is accessible to image capture. Working collaboratively
with the project team you'll develop your expertise and will be
enabling access to archives that will be treasured by people around
the world.

About you: Educated to degree level or equivalent, with a recognised
qualification in paper conservation, you will have experience in
book and paper conservation. Organised and detail focused, you're
able to prioritise and carry out those treatments effectively within
the digitisation schedule, utilising your sound IT skills
throughout. With good communication skills, the ability to problem
solve and a supportive approach, you will be able to work both
autonomously and as part of a team, making you an asset to the
digitisation project. Previous conservation experience in the
preparation of archive materials for digitisation is not essential
but would be highly desirable. Above all, you'll be ready to
immerse yourself in this truly unique project.

This is your opportunity to use your passion for preserving and
presenting history to deliver the exceptional.

In return you will be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits
package, including 25 days holiday (exclusive of Bank Holidays), a
15% employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for
flexibility to increase contributions or draw down as salary), lunch
provided, with on the job training and development, as well as a
range of out-of-hours recreational facilities.

Vacancy Closing Date: 4 August 2015
