    Leeds

Fixed Term from late September 2015 to 30 June 2016

Salary: UKP13, 000 per annum pro rata plus Pension

The Royal Armouries, Leeds Museums and Galleries and the University
of Leeds are offering a unique opportunity for an exceptional
candidate to gain conservation experience to further their interest
in the work of museum conservators. This successful training
project is looking for an individual interested in developing a
career as a museum conservator. The collaborative programme
encompasses practical hands on experience in both museum
organisations working with their Accredited Conservators and a
programme of academic study to help support the trainee as part of
the MA Gallery and Museum Studies at the University of Leeds.

Leeds Museums and Galleries is the largest local authority museum
service in England. It is an Arts Council funded Major Partner
Museum responsible for nine very different sites ranging from
stately homes, industrial and social history museums to a state of
the art open accessible dedicated store with attached conservation
studio. The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom's National Museum
of Arms and Armour, including firearms and artillery and has a
worldwide reputation as a centre of excellence for the Conservation
and Care of Arms and Armour. This traineeship is offered as part of
the Leeds Museums and Galleries ACE programme in partnership with
Royal Armouries.

The trainee will be expected to keep a full record of their work,
deliver presentations, publish relevant articles in the conservation
press and provide reports to both institutions during their
placement. Training in safe work practices, COSHH and current H&S
legislation form an important part of this placement.

Applications are invited from recent conservation graduates or
early-career conservators. You need to have recently obtained a
conservation qualification to apply for this Traineeship.

This is a funded fixed term traineeship working 30 hours per week, 5
days out of 7 running from late September 2015 to 30 June 2016.
