Conservation and Documentation Manager Bristol Museum and Art Gallery Full time, permanent BG12: UKP32,778 - UKP35,661 Based at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery Queens' Road Bristol BS8 1RL Ref: 25529 Bristol is a vibrant European city with a lively cultural offer. Bristol Museums, Galleries and Archives (BMGA) is central to Bristol City Council's Culture Team and at the heart of Bristol's history, identity and global recognition. BMGA is a 'Major Partner Museum' (MPM) receiving funding from Arts Council England (currently assured until April 2018) in addition to its core funding from its governing body, Bristol City Council. In a new post, the teams of conservators (5 posts) and documentation officers (4 posts) have been brought together under one manager responsible for these facets of collection management. This Conservation and Documentation Manager reports to the Head of Collections and Archives, one of three deputy heads within the Culture team. The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced museum professional with a specialist background in either museum conservation or documentation, or ideally both. They will demonstrate good personnel management skills and an understanding of the collection management issues facing museums today. BMGA utilises the EMu museum documentation system for its museum collections and CALM for the archive collections. Conservation disciplines represented are: oil paintings, works on paper, museum objects and preventive conservation. Further developing collection management in all these areas is a priority.
