is seeking a Project Conservator Supervisor to join the conservation
team based in Luxor, Egypt. The position involves leading an
advanced training program for Egyptian conservators and
collaborative work with Egyptian conservation supervisor associates
on the conservation of side chapels in Khonsu Temple, located in the
southwest corner of the Karnak Temple Complex. Karnak is part of
the World Heritage Site of ancient Thebes. It is one of the highest
profile historic monumental landscapes in the world, having immense
international significance and attracting millions of visitors
annually. Khonsu Temple is an integral part of this extraordinary
heritage. It was constructed during the reigns of Ramesses III and
Ramesses IV (circa 1184-1145 BC). For the next thousand years the
temple remained an important place of worship and was further
embellished by later pharaohs and high priests.

Since 2007, ARCE has conducted successful field schools based at
Khonsu Temple. ARCE trained Ministry of Antiquities conservation
staff in general condition assessment, cleaning and conservation as
part of the ongoing program to train Egyptian conservators in
documentation and treatment of painted walls. ARCE also has a
conservation laboratory adjacent to the temple. Some of the most
well preserved and vividly painted relief carvings anywhere at
Karnak are hidden within Khonsu Temple under centuries of soot and
grime.
