"Saving The Stones"
Training program in practical conservation of built heritage
October 12 - December 17, 2015

"Saving The Stones" is designed to give the foundation needed to
begin a career in conservation of built heritage and historic
preservation.  It is a 10 week practical training internship
designed for participants from inter-disciplinary backgrounds such
as: archaeology, architecture, historic preservation, art history,
urban planning, civil engineering, and more.

The program is intended to give recent graduates and young
professionals in these fields a unique opportunity to apply their
skills and knowledge so as to enable them to begin a career in field
of practical conservation.

Saving the Stones is held at the International Conservation Center -
Citta di Roma <URL:http://www.conservationcenter.org.il> that is
situated in Acre - Israel.  The program is taught by Israel's
leading conservation professionals, through hands-on work on various
archaeological sites in Israel.  Thus, participants have a unique
opportunity to learn, work, and live in the historic city Old Acre,
and embrace many characteristics of famous historical key-sites in
the Land of Israel.

During the program participants will:

   Gain better understanding of conservation procedures and
   theoretical basis;

   Acquire skills for practical conservation in order to apply them
   on all scale projects;

   Get acquainted with built heritage and history of Israel and the
   Mediterranean region;

   Join current conservation teams and experts to engage in active
   heritage sites;

   Develop a greater understanding of the underlying meaning
   connected to the rehabilitation of an historic living city by
   living within the historic city, side-by-side with local
   residents.

The 10 week program syllabus includes six main units:

    Unit 1. Introduction to Archaeology
    Unit 2. Introduction to Conservation and Heritage Management
    Unit 3. Survey, Documentation and Recording
    Unit 4. Condition Assessment Conservation plan and Stabilization
    Unit 5. Building technologies and materials
    Unit 6. On-Site Conservation (group project)

Practicum (optional): January 3 - February 11, 2016
