The Preservation Research and Testing Division (PRTD) at the Library
of Congress would like to announce a vacancy for a Librarian
(Preservation Specialist) - Vacancy #140308).  This is at the level
of GS-1410-09 with a salary range of $52,668.00 to $68,465.00 per
year.

Vacancy Opening Date: June 16, 2015
Vacancy Closing Date: June 30, 2015

This Librarian serves as a preservation specialist in the
Preservation Directorate of Library Services.  The Librarian uses
expert knowledge and skills to undertake preservation research to
preserve the Library's rarest, most valuable, and heavily accessed
art, books, manuscripts, photographs, recorded sound, moving image,
and other special media collections.

This position is located in the Preservation, Research and Testing
Division of the Preservation Directorate of Library Services.

Duties include:

    Undertakes preservation research to determine appropriate
    treatment or collections management procedures for books, paper,
    photographs, recorded sound or moving image materials for
    preservation

    Applies professional knowledge of preservation principles and
    activities to conduct and perform preservation research and
    quality assurance testing on collection and housing materials,
    to assist preservation treatments and appropriate storage
    environments.

    Organizes and analyzes standard subject data and specialized
    information that pertains to a specific topic or field in
    preservation of books, paper, photographs or recorded sound or
    moving image materials

    Identifies and evaluates major publications and trends in the
    preservation specialization.

    Prepares reports or other documents related to information and
    research efforts

    Works to maintain personal contacts and cooperative work
    relationships in order to provide or exchange information
