Assistant to the Director/Senior Paintings Conservator Hamilton Kerr Institute Fitzwilliam Museum University of Cambridge, UK UKP38,511 - UKP48,743 Established permanent position The Hamilton Kerr Institute for the conservation of easel paintings is a department of the Fitzwilliam Museum.It is also a postgraduate teaching institution with an international reputation for the high quality of its programmes of instruction for students and interns, and also operates an active and wide-ranging research programme. It undertakes the conservation of easel paintings in the Fitzwilliam Museum, and for external public and private collections, both within the University of Cambridge and further afield.Its clients include the National Trust and the Royal Collection. With an excellent reputation for the practical conservation treatment of easel paintings, you will hold at least a first degree and a recognised postgraduate qualification in conservation or equivalent, and be able to demonstrate wide experience of conservation practice. An established academic record in conservation research and practice is required, combined with sound commercial/business acumen.Aptitude, and preferably extensive experience, for teaching and supervising students is vital. A good theoretical knowledge of the material nature of easel paintings, and up to date knowledge of a wide range of possible conservation techniques for paintings/painted surface conservation, is necessary. Extensive and demonstrable experience of the structural treatment of wood panel paintings and canvases is an advantage. You will be required to undertake management and administrative duties as agreed with the Director, acting as Head of Department in the Director's absence when required to do so.
