Subject: Dartek
I would like feedback from conservators on the use of Dartek nylon film as a protective material for wrapping artworks for transit (with in crates) or in storage. Concerns are how this material reacts with the surface or near the surface of oil, acrylic and mixed media artworks, metals, wood, ceramics, glass, resins and plastics. Should Dartek be used only as a short-term layer of protection for objects? Or, can Dartek be used as a protective covering for objects in long-term storage (in either climate-controlled or temperature controlled environments)? Your experience with and knowledge of this material will be appreciated.
