Subject: Foxing and health hazards
There has been a lot of discussion in recent years on the health threats of mould in collections, but I have been unable to find information specifically related to foxing and health. Foxing describes stains that may be caused by a variety of factors, but fungal growth seems to be part of the equation. Do most institutions not worry about foxing and health, assuming that the fungal growth is not on the surface, and there not likely to be breathed in or transferred during handling? Or that it may be long dead? Does anyone have a health policy for handling foxed collections?
