Salary UKP24,500 to UKP28,500 per annum depending on knowledge and
skills

The Science Museum Group at Wroughton is seeking a highly-motivated,
enthusiastic and experienced Library and Archives materials
conservator to provide conservation and collections care support for
the development and delivery of Library and Archives functions.

As part of our Masterplan, an ambitious programme of capital
projects putting our collections at the heart of everything we do to
transform the museum, its buildings and the way our three million
visitors experience the Museum's collection, galleries and
facilities, is the development of our site at Wroughton.  Site use
is changing from storing large objects for the Science Museum to
being the main storage facility for the Science Museum Group which
includes the Science Museum, including the Library and Archives, the
National Railway Museum, the National Media Museum and the Museum of
Science and Industry.

The Science Museum Library is one of the world's great research
libraries for the history of science and technology.  The Science
Museum Archives holds archives from some of the most famous and
influential individuals and companies in the fields of science,
medicine, engineering and industry.  The Library and Archives will
support the new Research Centre at the museum in South Kensington,
to be opened autumn 2015, which will provide a world-class
environment for academic research and a greater connection between
our objects, library and archive collections as well as continuing
to support in-house exhibitions and loans to other institutions.

You will be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a
team-based environment to enable the site development programme;
interact effectively with conservation and collections care and
library and archive staff and other internal museum colleagues and
external stakeholders; communicate effectively, clearly, concisely,
and persuasively.

You will have current experience and demonstrable skills in
conservation of library and archival collections including relevant
chemistry, conservation theory, laboratory design and technical
skills.

You will have competent organizational, analytical, time and project
management skills and excellent problem solving and decision making
skills, with the ability to formulate and implement innovative
approaches and solutions to problems.

You will have line management responsibilities.

You will need to be aware of hazard management procedures associated
with historical materials and have a good knowledge of Health and
Safety management procedures, including risk assessment and safe use
of chemicals for lab safety and collections management.

The ability to use Collections databases (Mimsy XG) will be
essential.
