is recruiting for a Conservation Intern.

The main objective of the Conservation Intern is to continue and
complete work on the recently acquired and sizeable Arthur Lismer
Estate Collection/Archive.  This will involve the sorting,
cataloguing, condition assessment, documentation/photography, object
appropriate housing for long term storage of various objects (paper
based and 3D) and collation of data in the McMichael Collection TMS
(The Museum System) database.

Several large groups of recently acquired works to the MCAC
Permanent collection (including works on paper, First Nations masks,
rattles, textiles, etc) also require housing, proper mounts for long
term storage in the MCAC vaults.

The recently upgraded storage systems in the painting vault of the
MCAC also require reorganization, final locations of works and
proper labelling.

The successful candidate will be a post graduate of a recognized
Conservation or Museum / Collections Studies Program with a
specialization in Paper Objects or considerable experience in paper
objects and a minimum of 2 years related work experience.  Art
handling experience is a must and knowledge of Canadian art (Group
of Seven, First Nations) an asset.  A high level of computer,
organizational and writing skills is also required.

All Arthur Lismer Estate Collection Project and other McMichael
Permanent Collection storage/housing/vault activities will take
place at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario
in the Collections Department.

Familiarity with MS Word, Office and Excel are required.  Experience
with Photoshop, other image software and database software are
assets.  This 26 week internship will be open to all qualified
applicants.
