The Gerry Hedley Students Symposium Northumbria University Monday 8 June 2015 Following on from the information posted on Monday, March 9, 2015 please find further details below; This annual conference showcases student research in easel painting and works of art on paper from the Hamilton Kerr Institute, the Courtauld Institute of Arts and Northumbria University Newcastle upon Tyne. We are delighted to announce Godfrey Worsdale, Director of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, shall be opening the conference. During the one day proceedings a diverse range of papers will be presented reflecting traditional concerns, as well as the challenges associated with modern materials and mixed media art-works. The day will be followed by an evening reception, providing an opportunity for students, academics and practitioners to network and share ideas. On Tuesday 9 June 2015 there will be the option to join tours of the Conservation Department and Fine Art Paper Studio, dedicated to paper-making and drawing. There will also be an opportunity to attend a short workshop on the application of the latest FTIR + UV microscope presented by PerkinElmer UK who specialise in analytical instruments, diagnostics and laboratory technology.
